Day Six – Norrie, Daniel, and Laaksonen Into Semifinals

Lahaina, Hawaii January 27, 2017– The Americans took a beating today at the 2017 SportMaster Tennis Championships of Maui. Of the three quarterfinal matches played today, all three Americans were ousted. Tennys Sandgren (USA) had the closest match of the day going three sets but falling to potential Swiss Davis Cup player, Henri Laaksonen 6-4, 3-6, 6-2.

Taro Daniel (JPN) seemed to have an easy time with America’s Mitchell Kreuger sweeping him 6-3, 6-1.

The last match of the daytime session was between Alexander Sarkissian (USA) and Cameron Norrie (GBR). Norrie outplayed Sarkissian from the start and dominated the match 6-1, 6-3.

“I went out there and tried to make every point as physical as I could,” said Norrie. “He (Sarkissian) was staying back and looping the ball so I was trying to take some time away and make him move.”

Norrie was content with his level of play. When asked about the slow play of the courts, he seemed to favor the pace.

“For me, it’s so nice, I love this weather. Real hot and slow conditions,” he explained.

Norrie was also content with competing in Hawaii.

“Honestly it’s the best place I’ve ever been to,” he exuded. “If I make any money in tennis, I’m for sure buying a place here.”

Norrie will take on Taro Daniel in the semifinals tomorrow at 10:00am. Michael Mmoh and Hyeon Chung to compete tonight for a night quarterfinal match.
